I was wondering where everyone stands on this topic. Are you in favor of teachers with a valid CCW being allowed to carry during school hours or do you believe this is a complete no-no.? I know this is a hot topic right now and wanted to see where Officers stood on this. Please respond with your thoughts!!!!!

I think the more armed good guys are better in any situation but we must train train train before we just hand them our major purpose of being in the schools... they must pass a background, and Psychological testing and also pass some type of police training in weapon retention and so on!

I am for it, however I think additional training should be in place besides the CCW class.

Against it. Now let me give my reasons. Law enforcement officers are in the position of knowing that we have to eliminate the threat, even if that means passing by wounded/injured/killed. We condition ourselves to this knowledge. I have gone over this in my head about a million times and mentally prepare for this every day. Teachers are in a different mindset. They have the mindset of protector/mother/father. When they see one of the kids that they may have had a close relationship with with a weapon, are they going to hesitate? If so, they are a liability, because the "shooter" has already made up his/her mind. The hesitation could cause the teacher to become a liability, or a casualty. And then the shooter would have an additional weapon. And lets not forget another aspect. I have a lot of teachers that I would be "ok" with having a firearm, and that they could be trustworthy. However, there are also some teachers (some in EVERY school) that would be downright scary with a gun.
