I received Project Alert's (www.projectalert.org) Winter 2015 newsletter, and I believe that each of you dealing with middle school youth should check it out. The link is below.
In short, there is a rising trend of middle school youth abusing e-cigarette devices, not fully comprehending what they are ingesting into their organs. Orange County California School District along with several health entities joined together for an awareness program targeting middle school youth on the dangers of lighting up (no pun intended) these devices. Lots of good information coming to the forefront on the dangers of the chemicals being placed into those products. There is a link for their program as well.
If you haven't heard of, or been associated with, or have taught Project Alert, take a look at their website and get the latest and greatest information on substance abuse. We used this FREE curricula in our rural, urban and metropolitan schools in Arizona with great success. The information is fresh with constantly updated videos geared directly towards middle school students. In my rural school district, we didn't have tons of cash laying around for curricula, so to have a first rate program was well worth the investment. Actually, the only investment is time. The investment is your time to do on-line training prior to teaching Project Alert. Takes a couple of hours and you might be able to take it for POST certified credit. Check with your agency for that possibility.
It doesn't take long to not only register (free) but also to become certified (free) in using all of their materials, such as powerpoint presentations, posters, video's, youth drug surveys, again, all free.
Here's the link on Project Alert's Winter newsletter...

Take a couple of minutes, check out this link and begin using the new material for your students as soon as practical.
Your replies and definitely, classroom testimonials will help others make that crucial decision in using this material for their students.
